Anagama Wood Kiln
My Anagama wood kiln which took a year to build, is a 12 foot long 6 foot wide and 6 foot tall barrel arch tunnel kiln, with a 12 foot chimney. We fire it twice a year in May and October. I fire it with a crew of people as it consumes 7 cords of wood in our 6 day firing. For 144 hours, round the clock, our stokers open the door to the fire, which reaches 2300 degrees fahrenheit, and feed this kiln with five pieces of wood every 5 minutes.
This is the only way to achieve the color and finish that is necessary for the work.
